Places To Stay And Planning Your Journey

Welcome to our guide on where to stay on the Mother Road including our lessons learnt on when to take more rest and where to stay to maximise your enjoyment of the trip. Our advice is to book places that you will enjoy as a couple but book each one for a different reason. Some are suggested for their history, some for their luxury for a couple to stay and some for their sheer quirkiness. Please remember if you are travelling as a couple that the journey is tiring so it is great to stay in a hotel with that added luxury so you can get a good nights rest. Please use the links to book these hotels as I spent a considerable amount of time researching these hotels and finding the best  prices in February this year. Also remember to book early, some of these motels are Route 66 gems whilst some are popular city destinations and will get fully booked early. Enjoy and let us know about your stay when you return!

Chicago Illinois

If you arrive at Chicago O Hare airport use the shuttle bus to take you into Chicago city and spend a couple of nights enjoying the windy city. We made the mistake of picking up our hire car from the airport and starting our adventure the very next day which was too tiring. Chicago is not a cheap place to stay so if you are on a budget, just stay the one night. If you have pick up your hire car from the airport, the hotel we recommend has a great car park around 200 yards away which is good value. Click here to find out about car hire.

Hotel Blake is a boutique hotel which has recently been refurbished so the rooms are luxurious and it housed in an interesting building on Printers Row. The magnificent mile is just one mile away so you can enjoy the Windy City on foot. Click here to find about places to eat in Chicago.
